Oh how I wish I were talking about adult beverages!!

A Facebook friend of mine sent me this succulent recipe the other day and all I could do was long for the sweet, sweet taste of fruit juice and libations. *sigh* At least, I still home caffeine and chocolate…for now.
Fortunately and unfortunately, I’m talking about the first round of fertility medication. Morning Cocktails: This is a term I coined during the birth of the Baker Boys as I developed the routine of taking my meds in the morning so I wouldn’t forget. As most girls are taught in Junior High School, women’s bodies go thru a 28 day cycle with day 1 being that dreaded visit from Aunt Flo.
(In case you were absent that day… https://www.menstrupedia.com/articles/physiology/cycle-phases)
I was supposed to overlap the medicine while on Birth Control Pills. But I ran out and my doctor was not responding to my requests for a refill. So we moved to plan B.
Day 1 was August 6th. I began the Lupron shots on Day 21 (Aug 27th) after an extensive back and forth with the satellite pharmacy located in Massachusetts. Lupron overstimulates certain hormones in the body, which causes that production to shut down temporarily. This medication reduces the amount of estrogen in women. So, my body is placed into a temporary menopause where I do not ovulate. Along with that comes the symptoms of menopause – hot flashes, headaches, etc. I always experience an increased appetite. During the last journey, I distinctly remember sitting on the floor eating cold chicken wings. I couldn't wait to heat them up. I couldn't wait to get a plate. I sat on the floor with the door open eating the chicken straight out of the fridge! It’s always hilarious to watch the look on a waiter’s face when I order 2 whole entrees. They ask me if I’m sure. They slowly write it down. They stare at me.
YES, I WANT THE STEAK AND THE CHICKEN WITH ALL THE SIDES. AND YES, I’M GOING TO EAT IT ALL. DON’T JUDGE ME!!
I also get a daily headache, but I attribute that to the parsley/ginger tea I’m drinking to induce my cycle. I’m ready to get this show on the road. Trying to go about it a natural way. (If you have an event, trip, or “special date” planned and want to induce your period Click here for the recipe) Just when I thought I had no other symptoms I said, “Why is it so hot in here all of a sudden?!?” Oooooh, so that’s what a hot flash feels like.
This process involves a lot of waiting, but when things happen, they happen quickly. Hurry Up Flo! I’m ready to trade this tea for a cocktail!
